One year has passed since the earthquakes of February 6, 2023, the disaster of the century. This one year has tested us with many things.
We lost over 50 thousand of our citizens, nearly 110 thousand of you were injured and 11 provinces turned into a place of devastation. I wish Allah’s mercy to our citizens who lost their lives and my condolences once again to our beloved nation. May Allah never again show such pain to this nation.
Earthquake has been a natural phenomenon since the beginning of human history, and we have once again experienced in the most severe way that it is not the earthquake that kills, but the understanding of development that builds buildings that are not resistant to earthquakes.
In addition to the dead and injured citizens, the collapsed buildings, workplaces, furniture, machinery and equipment and scrapped vehicles have been a major blow to the national economy. What we have lost is much more than we thought.
From the very first moment of the earthquake, we put aside all kinds of differences and rivalries, and came together as a fist of steel. The conscience and resilience of our nation, which came together immediately and unconditionally, has also made a note in history.
We have a sociological culture that heals its own wounds and rises straighter than it falls. We are a nation that has repeatedly demonstrated this every time history has tested us.
February 6, 2023 is a bitter and terrible experience that will be talked about for centuries and will be included in history books as the “disaster of the century”. May God spare this nation and humanity such great pain and despair ever again.
